What Is Pokemon GO Community Day?

Community Day is a monthly 3-hour event in Pokemon GO where one featured Pokémon spawns in massive numbers across the entire world. During those three hours — always 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time — the featured Pokémon has a dramatically boosted shiny rate (approximately 1 in 25) and evolving it during the event window unlocks an exclusive Charged Attack that can’t be obtained any other way without an Elite TM.
Every Community Day also comes with additional bonuses — usually a combination of:
✨
Boosted Shiny Rates
⭐
2× or 3× Stardust / XP
🍬
2× or 3× Catch Candy
⏱️
3-Hour Lures & Incense
🥚
¼ Egg Hatch Distance
🔄
Extra Special Trade
Community Days run from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time on either a Saturday or Sunday. Some bonuses (like Lures) extend to 9:00 PM. The evolution window for the exclusive move is typically 2–5 hours after the event ends, depending on the month.

December Community Day — The Year-End Event
December Community Day is the biggest Community Day of the entire year. Unlike the monthly events, December runs for two full days and features every Pokémon that starred in a Community Day throughout 2026. It’s your second chance to catch anything you missed — and the exclusive evolution window is open for all moves from this year and the previous year.
🏆 What Makes December Special
- ✓ Runs over two full days instead of one afternoon
- ✓ All 2026 Community Day Pokémon return in the wild, raids and eggs
- ✓ Exclusive move window open for all 2025 and 2026 Community Day Pokémon
- ✓ Best opportunity to evolve high-IV Pokémon you saved throughout the year
How to Prepare for Every Community Day

Going into Community Day prepared makes a massive difference to how much you get out of it. Here’s what to do the day before every event:
The Night Before Checklist
- ✓ Clear Pokémon storage — transfer 200–300 Pokémon to make room for the flood of catches
- ✓ Stock up on Poké Balls — open gifts, spin PokéStops the day before to fill your bag
- ✓ Load up on Star Pieces — activate one as soon as the event starts, chain them for maximum Stardust
- ✓ Prepare Lucky Eggs — if the event has an XP bonus, stack Lucky Eggs for 6× XP with the 3× CD bonus
- ✓ Fill Incubators with eggs — especially 10km and 12km eggs so they hatch during the ¼ distance bonus
- ✓ Save your best IV Pokémon for evolving — tag them before the event so you can evolve quickly without hunting through storage

Frequently Asked Questions
What time does Pokemon GO Community Day start?
Community Day runs from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time on either a Saturday or Sunday. The event is based on your local time zone, so it starts and ends at the same local time worldwide. Some bonuses like Lure Modules remain active until 9:00 PM.
How long do you have to evolve for the exclusive Community Day move?
You can evolve for the exclusive move during the 3-hour event window and for a further period after it ends — this varies per event, typically between 2 and 5 hours after the event closes. Always check the official announcement for each specific month’s window. After that, an Elite Charged TM is required.
What is the shiny rate during Community Day?
The Community Day shiny rate for the featured Pokémon is approximately 1 in 25, compared to the standard wild shiny rate of around 1 in 500. This makes Community Day the best recurring opportunity in the game for shiny hunting a specific Pokémon.
What is a Community Day Classic in Pokemon GO?
A Community Day Classic is a special repeat of a past Community Day event, bringing back an older featured Pokémon with its original exclusive move. It runs at the same 3-hour format and gives players who missed the original event a second chance. Classic events appear irregularly — usually 2 to 4 times per year.
If I miss a Community Day, can I still get the exclusive move?
Yes — two ways. First, the December Community Day brings back all of the year’s featured Pokémon and opens the exclusive move evolution window for the entire weekend. Second, you can use an Elite Charged TM at any point to teach a Pokémon its Community Day exclusive move. Elite TMs are rare but available from GBL rewards and special research.
